Yamaha MR1 ?

Post by project101 » Thu Aug 31, 2023 8:42 pm

Recently saw a boat think it was a BMF with Yamaha MR1 the pump look like yam as-well.
Is there any reason guys are not doing this ? Seem like a good replacement for sportjet applications from what I see.

Idk if the pump would hold up to what our boats go through? I had high hopes merc would have a 4 stroke sport jet out by now. I think a 300hp 4 stroke with a stainless liner and impeller would be a huge hit in aluminum jet boat world. Not sure there is enough market to justify it though. Most guys up here seem to be going to offshore brackets now or outboard jets.

I know I figured there would be a 4 stroke equivalent. Or Atleast swap parts to mount a 4 stroke power head.

I’m still researching . Yam also has a 1.8 for their pleasure boats with jet pumps.

I love to explore my local river and I’m looking into a smaller boat with a repower . My 22.5 ‘ with 454 is a bit expensive for how much I’m on the water .

I feel like it wouldn’t be tough to machine an adapter for the crank then a spacer to makeup for the extra distance between power head and pump. Just not sure on cooling difference between the 4 stroke and 2. I really love the sport jet other than the noise. And another 100hp would be welcome.
